#NOWPLAYING: June

June was a great month for me personally, but a pretty bad month for empathy, compassion and basic human decency in the world. If you've been feeling like I have (angry, tired, sad, tired of being angry, sad, angry again), check out these organizations that could use your donations.

Funnily enough, because of all those aforementioned feelings, I found myself listening to a lot of happy music this month. This playlist contains only one sort-of-sad song, which is a first for me.

Anyway, enough preamble. Here's some music that puts a smile on my face. I hope it puts one on yours, too.

Let's Get Lost - Carly Rae Jepsen

It seems like the world decided to discount Carly as a one-hit wonder after "Call Me Maybe," which makes me incredibly sad because most of her songs are pure pop perfection—including this one.

Favourite lyrics: "baby, let's go get lost / I like that you're driving slow / keeping my fingers crossed / that maybe you'll take the long way home"

Shotgun - George Ezra

This song sounds like all the best parts of summer, and I love it to bits. So much, in fact, that I created an alternate playlist for June. Here you go!

Crush - Tessa Violet

This one's for everyone out there that's falling head-first into a fun summer crush right now. Also, I have done everything Tessa talks about in this song at least once. Oops.

Favourite lyrics: "I've got a fascination with your presentation / making me feel like you're on my island, you're my permanent vacation"

Girls Like You - Maroon 5

Full disclosure: the only reason I listened to "Girls Like You" at first was to watch the music video on repeat. Now I kind of like the song on its own, though, so here it is.

When I'm With You - Ben Rector

You know those people in your life who make you better just by being around? This one's for them.

Bright Lights and Cityscapes - Sara Bareilles

I'm gonna love you
'Til you start looking back

I'm gonna love you so right
I wouldn't need a second chance.

Next month, we'll probably be back to our regularly-scheduled programming of sad songs, so I'll see you then.
